School News

Landscape/School Beautification Committee

Parents have noticed that the landscaping in front of the school needs some TLC.  Are you a green thumb and enjoy working in the dirt?  We’ve created a Facebook group at: that like-minded parents can coordinate efforts.  In the past, PTO has helped coordinate these efforts with the school administration, but nothing has been formalized recently.  We would like to restart this effort and determine how we can get volunteers and donations to keep Wickliffe beautiful all-year-round.

Wickliffe Wellness – Lunch Initiatives

We are trying two new ideas related to lunch!  Our goal is to slow down time spent eating and reduce the length of the lunch line.  If we can get enough volunteers to support these initiatives, we can get them started and help improve the quality of our lunch periods at Wickliffe.  A better lunch means a better learning environment for all!

  • OUTDOOR DINING:  Provides an opportunity for 5th graders to eat outside in the library courtyard weather permitting.
    • Outdoor dining will be available each day it is nice enough to go outside beginning October 9th as often as we have volunteers to supervise.
    • We need one (1) volunteer daily to make sure the 5th graders are using the space appropriately, cleaning up after themselves, throwing things away properly and basically being good “diners”.
    • The shift would be from 11:30-12:05. The office will make an announcement on the days volunteers are present.
    • Volunteers should sign in at the office and head to the library courtyard.
    • Please contact Chris Collaros at 614-487-5150 or [email protected]  if you have any questions regarding the outdoor dining program.
  • PRE-ORDERING MEALS PILOT:  Gives families the ability to pre-order meals to help limit the length of the line.
    • Pre-ordering will be for Tuesdays and Fridays with service beginning Tuesday, October 17th.
    • We need one (1) volunteer each Tuesday and Friday to hand out the pre-ordered lunches and make sure the right children are picking up the right order.
    • A list will be provided to the volunteers from the kitchen staff.  The shift would be from 11:00-12:05.
    • Volunteers should check-in with Teresa Morley in the office when you arrive for your shift.
    • Please contact Irene Hunt at 614-487-5244 or if you have any questions regarding the pre-ordered meals program.

Sign Up Now!

IF YOU HAVE TO CANCEL: If you sign up for a shift and find that you are unable to attend, please contact Teresa Morley at 614-487-5150 or [email protected] as soon as possible.  Thank you for volunteering!

Issue 43 – Building Tours & Neighbor 2 Neighbor Information Session

After a community-driven facilities master planning process to identify how to proceed with the district’s needs for operating funding and the community’s master plan, the Board of Education took action to place a combined operating levy and bond issue on the November 7 ballot. Issue 43 is a 3.75-mill operating levy combined with a $230 million bond issue, which would be collected at a rate of approximately 5.17 mills above current collections. The combined ballot issue would be collected at a rate of 8.92 mills above current collections. Issue 43 represents the district’s lowest operating funding request in more than 35 years and the first bond request in more than 20 years.

What will Issue 43 fund?

Issue 43 would maintain current educational programming and would fund the first phase of the community-developed master plan. The first phase involves rebuilding the high school and rebuilding or renovating all five elementary schools to address the aging building systems (HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical) and add the needed space to accommodate projected enrollment growth. The first phase also includes addressing drainage issues and installing a turf field and baseball/softball diamonds on the district-owned land behind Tremont Elementary School to serve as needed athletic space.

Plans to Rebuild Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School include: Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School
  • Builds a new two-story building with a secure main entry behind the existing building
  • Retains the community-developed “castle” playground
  • Educates students in the old building during construction
  • Retains the old building for an additional school year to educate Windermere students

All five elementary schools, including Wickllife Progressive, will be open to community members for tours at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 12. The high school will be open for tours at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, and there is a Neighbor 2 Neighbor Information Session at 7:45 p.m. that night:

If the ballot issue is approved, the Board of Education would immediately launch a community-driven design phase for the six buildings involving all residents, students and staff members interested in participating.

For more information about the ballot issue and the master planning process, please visit

Welcome Back from the PTO President

On behalf of the Wickliffe PTO, I’d like to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year. I am looking forward to the year ahead!

The PTO’s goal is to enhance the experience of every student and teacher at Wickliffe, and we do this in a number of ways. Yes, we provide financial support for many things (field trips, classroom supplies, hands-on experiences at Wickliffe, and many, many more), but we also support them via your time (calling all volunteers!), as well as serving as co-educators (both in and out of the classroom). These are just a few examples of how you can get involved (please see below for more details). I’m confident that each parent/guardian can find a way to help that suits them and to add a little weight to my request – kids love it when their family member gets involved :)

Please join me at 8:15 AM for a Back to School Coffee event on the first day of school (Wednesday August 16) in the courtyard just outside the library for a cup of coffee and a snack in celebration of the new school year.

If you have any questions PTO-related, please don’t hesitate to contact me ([email protected]). I hope your school year gets off to a fantastic start!
